How to Meet Stars of BJJ in Rio de Janeiro

One of the best things about training BJJ in Rio de Janeiro is that you have many opportunities to meet some of the biggest names in BJJ! Here’s how to find them.

Visit The Gyms

Connection Rio organises many academy visits to gyms around the city, taking you directly to some of the best BJJ gyms in Rio de Janeiro. We’ve organised visits to over 20 BJJ gyms in Rio de Janeiro, including Alliance, Gracie Barra, Escola de Jiu-Jitsu, Nogueira Training Center, Rosado Jiu-Jitsu, Strauch Jiu-Jitsu, Fabricio Jiu-Jitsu, RFT, and many many more.

This is the best place to meet the big local names, as you’ll often find them training on the same mat as you! Imagine turning up to training only to see Jose Aldo in a gi or to roll with a legend like Terere.

Many famous names, such as Terere, De la Riva or Ricardo Vieira, have their own gyms and will warmly welcome you should you pay them a visit.

If you drop into one of the famous gyms, such as Nova Uniao, BTT or X-Gym, you’re likely to meet some of the most famous names in both BJJ and MMA. Nova Uniao is the home of top stars such as Jose Aldo and many more. BTT is BJJ and MMA legend Murilo Bustamante’s gym.

X-Gym is where 7th degree black and red belt Sylvio Behring teaches BJJ, but where you’ll also find MMA stars such as Jacare, Erick Silva and Paulo Thiago do their training. Many visiting stars drop into X-Gym to do their training, and it’s where we took the picture of Dennis Asche with Andre Galvao you see above.
