Jiu-jitsu is a martial art, yet it’s also got a lot in common with extreme sports: the lifestyle, the lingo, fashion… And of the martial arts, jiu-jitsu is pretty extreme sometimes!
Rio de Janeiro is the perfect place to experience different extreme sports, most notably:
- Hang gliding / Para sailing
- Surfing / Kite surfing / Stand-up paddle boarding
Hang gliding (and it’s cousin para sailing) take place in the perfect setting of Sao Conrado, and fliers will launch off the nearby Pedra Bonita, a small mountain on the edge of the Tijuca national forest. Connection Rio can assist in finding a safe, reliable and responsible flight operator.

As Rio has some of the best beaches in the world, it also has some of the best surfing. Many people surf, including many of the guys in the jiu-jitsu community. Connection Rio regularly arranges surfing experiences and can assist in finding individual lessons if required.
Barra da Tijuca is one of the world centers for kite surfing and the main point is located just two blocks from our new property in Baixo Barra. Many of the guys from Gordo’s Gym kite surf there, and we can help you get set up with beginner’s lessons.
Stand-up paddle boarding is a relatively new form of watersport but is fast becoming popular. Extremely popular during the quieter periods where the aren’t big enough waves to surf, paddle boarding is a relaxing way to unwind after hard jiu-jitsu training.
From training and accommodation to academy visits and special tours, and even small group classes with the best teachers Rio has to offer, Connection Rio offers everything you need for the perfect jiu-jitsu holiday!
