Posting mail from Rio de Janeiro, you must first know where to go and what to look for. The Brazilian national agency that handles national and international post is called Correios and Fed-Ex equivalent is Sed-Ex. Mailing postcards or packages from from Rio de Janeiro is an easy process, that requires a little patience. On occasion the locations are shared with other businesses making them more difficult to locate but as long as you know the yellow and blue colours of this sign finding it will be much easier.
Once you have located a Correios, mailing a post card or posting a package is pretty straight forward. Any package that is posted internationally requires a declaration of content for customs. This form has dual text in both Portuguese and English. The clerk will offer you several options (five to be exact) for posting, informing estimated arrival times and weight limits for each option. I recommend saving your receipt as a record for your documents and date the package was sent.
A couple of Portuguese words that may help with your postal experiences are:
Selo – Stamp
Mandar – Send
Caixa – Box
Destino – Destination
Remitent – Return address

Good luck!
